Each year, staff from businesses all across the Lower Mainland team up to ride in the Big Bike for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. This was the first year The West Coast Auto Groupparticipated but it won’t be our last. We put a team of 29 employees and owners together. Even though we had only just opened the doors at West Coast Kia a few days before, we managed to have several Kia staff involved.
After several names were submitted a vote was taken and the 29 riders agreed upon our team name “CAR-Diac Cruisers” and as one of those participants I can tell you that the West Coast Car-Diac cruisers pedalled up a storm. To our disappointment we came in 2nd out of the 5 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows teams that participated this year, missing the win by only 21 seconds (we think it was because of a stop light…)
For us that day, it wasn’t just about winning it was about supporting and raising money for the Heart & Stroke and we sure did that, we raised almost $5,000 with one team mate from West Coast Ford Lincoln “Nick Davis” raising over $1,000! All participants that raised over $500 received a special gold heart and we had several staff wearing gold hearts that day.
Watch the roads next year for our team on the Big Red Bike, because we’ll be back, pedalling our way to beat Heart disease.
